MAGAZINE NAME

Choosing the name of a media outlet is incredibly difficult. Not only does it need to be catchy and stay in the readers mind, but it needs to be a word that has the potential to become an entire brand. The majority of magazine names end up becoming a defining word to describe someone who fits the typical target market of the magazine. For example, you might hear somebody say “He/she is so vogue!” This is a prime example of how a name has the chance to become so iconic its purpose can change from noun to adjective.

The magazine name I ended up choosing is ‘GREYSCALE’
The definition of greyscale uses the word ‘monochrome’. I initially had monochrome as my magazines name, but decided that the word seemed to ‘blunt’ and didn’t seem to have a ring to it, due to an imbalance of syllables on either side of the word. Greyscale has a smoother sound, and also means similar. The importance of monochrome or greyscale being used was the fashionable connotations of the words, as I pictured my magazine as a publication which is modern yet also not so outrageous it couldn’t be timeless.

I also liked the idea that the name ‘Greyscale’ shows that music doesn’t need to be vibrant and loud to be interesting and complex.
